"Wherever the bishop appears, there let the people be; as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." -- St. Ignatius of Antioch (circa 100 AD).

Chaplain Jerry Sherbourne

Thank you for visiting my page! Why am I running in support of the AMS in the Army 10 Miler? Because it's important to the the Archdiocese - established by Pope St. John Paul himself -- and if it's important to the Bishop, that makes it important to the rest of us.

It is no coincidence that the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) discusses the value and role of military service in the context of the SACRED NATURE OF ALL HUMAN LIFE and DUTY OF SERVING THE COMMON GOOD by teaching:

“those who are sworn to serve their country in the armed forces are servants of the security and freedom of nations. If they carry out their duty honorably, they truly contribute to the common good of the nation and the maintenance of peace” (CCC 2310).

There are currently 1.8 million Catholics "contributing to the common good and the maintenance of peace" for the U.S.A. in the Armed Forces - and millions more family members! - and there are less than 300 priests to serve them. The shortage is critical - and we owe it to our Catholic brothers and sisters to support them as they sacrifice to protect and defend the USA.

The money we raise in the AMS/Army 10 Miler goes directly to support Archbishop Broglio's aggressive actions to promote priestly vocations and the call to serve and provide the sacraments for Catholic military personnel.

Together we can make a difference. As a "Team Captain" and Army priest-chaplain, it is my goal to help every runner raise at least $5k for the AMS. That means $250k this year and $1 million by 2020! I have raised my goal to $10k because (I hear) it's easier for Army priests to raise money than it is for some others -- many of whom are sacrificing greatly to run for the AMS. Please give generously to help support our Catholic military personnel and their families.

Thank you for your prayers and donations.

God bless you,

Chaplain Fr. Jerry Sherbourne
